How to Cook:

Wash the Pearl Millet thoroughly.

Cook it similar to rice — either in a pressure cooker (2 whistles) or in a pot using 1 part millet to 3 parts water.

It cooks in about one-fourth the time of regular rice.

Serve it with curries, vegetables, or use it as a base for porridge and upma.
Recipe Idea – Pearl Millet Upma
Ingredients:

1 cup soaked Pearl Millet (soaked for 5 hours)

½ cup green peas
-
1 carrot (chopped)
-
1 tbsp urad dal
-
4 green chilies
-
Curry leaves, mint leaves, coriander leaves

2 tbsp ghee or oil
-
1 lemon
Preparation:

Heat ghee or oil in a pan. Add urad dal, curry leaves, and green chilies.

Add chopped carrot and green peas, sauté for a few minutes.

Pour 2 cups of water and boil for 10 minutes.

Add the soaked millet and cook until water is absorbed.

Add coriander and mint leaves, cook for 2 minutes.

Serve hot with lemon juice — a hearty and nutritious breakfast!
